SPOTLIGHT: Job Wouters (a.k.a. Letman)

Job Wouters is a designer from The Netherlands who loves letters, illustrates with letters, and is obviously having a great time doing it.  Here's a description of the artist by an artist friend of his...

He is cuckoo about letters, he loves them, so far is certain. He is also one of those fellows who can read a chunky novel in a couple of hours, but that's a different story. His designs are transparent, leaving room to breathe. Them letters got things to say, they are so clear it tickles your eye and make you blink. What is this colourful craft? Letman's letters are curious. His handmade style fits the boundaries of typography like a universe on itself by lashing out to illustration, grafitti and graphic design. Letters are free entities to him. They are clear and cunning. Together they stand strong.

p.s. Make sure to check out the video at the end of this post, featuring him and his son making letters.  Wish I'd thought to do it.  Guess I still can.

Spotlight: Jessica Hische

ovely letterforms that are graphic and playful, are at Jessica Hische's website, Daily Drop Cap. Scroll down the pages for all sorts of neat ways to illustrate letters. Check out Jessica's blog, I love Type for more lettering inspiration and her professional porfolio also. When asked for advise from people who want to design type and lettering, she says "If you want to be a good type designer, you have to make as much of it as possible and look at as much of it as possible. Buy old type books (if you can find them). Buy art history books about vintage type (Euro Deco is one I’ll always recommend — tons of great examples). Practice, practice, practice. If you have the patience to keep plugging along at it, you’ll be great in no time, I swear."

SPOTLIGHT: Helen Dardik

(of orange you lucky blog)
Helen studied art and design at ORT School of Art and Design in Israel. Her work is so much fun! She has fabulous color and pattern as well as bouncy illustrative lettering layouts.

Андрей Ща™ SHCH  is an awesome artist in Kiev, Ukraine. He likes keeping it a secret about himself, so unfortunately there is very little information about him on the web. But his letters are true passion. Love his work. http://www.sgr.kiev.ua/
